Family Reflection

“Alex was eager to share with us what she did at Haverford — working in the library, making breakfast, working in the gym. As time went on, more and more would come out. For example, when her mom said she was going to take Alex’s clothes out of the dryer, Alex said, ‘I can do that… I did that at Haverford.'”

“Perhaps the greatest impact of the program is on the self confidence that was developed and the pride that he clearly feels at having succeeded in so many wonderful ways!”

“For Liz, a huge step was just calling home every night on her cell phone. She had not previously used her phone much, and of course for us, it was terrific to speak to her. She became much more accomplished in these conversations as the days went by.”

“Visiting the program at Haverford College was an emotional experience. It is hard to understand, nevermind explain, why for the two of us it is so powerful to witness the kindness, the clarity, the extraordinary energy, and commitment you bring to the work you do to shape the lives of young adult. Transition is a daunting prospect, but you afford us the hope that Matthew may have a happy and meaningful adulthood more and less without us.”

“Only one word can describe the Carousel Connections experience — extraordinary! And there are two words to describe our personal feelings regarding the program — deepest gratitude.”

“The pictures are excellent proof of how happy somebody can be when they are entrusted with responsibility.”

“Sally is showing more confidence and a willingness to be a contributing member of the family. She has planned meals for this week and we all shopped together for the ingredients. She is taking more initiative, doing things without us having to ask. My insight is that children and young adults grow when they are not with their parents!”

“Summer sessions provide a ‘kick start’ to developing and maintaining the skills he will as a maturing adult.”
